Right path receives MFA grant

The MFA Oil Foundation has awarded a grant to The Right Path Riding Academy to assist with purchasing new riding helmets. The MFA provides support to non-profit organizations that are working to improve communities where MFA Oil has a significant concentration of members and employees.

The Cushing Lady Tiger golf team will compete in the OSSAA State High School Golf Tournament at Buffalo Rock Golf and Venue, Wednesday and Thursday, May 5 and 6. The Lady Tigers placed second at the Regional tournament in Kingfisher this past week with a combined score of 379.

Hillcrest Hospital Cushing recently received a new transformer, replacing the old one that had been in service since the expansion of the hospital in 2006. The City of Cushing purchased the new transformer and it was installed with the help of a crane provided by the Grand River Dam Authority.

COVID-19 Update

As of Monday, May 3, Oklahoma State Department of Health reports 10,396 active cases of COVID-19. The total cases are at 447,279 since beginning testing total recoveries reported are at 430,095 and deaths are reported at 6,788. Payne County has 133 active cases.

House Begins Sending Bills to Governor

We’re almost two-thirds of the way through this session! We heard 115 bills in the House this week, and still have about 200 more Senate bills available to consider next week. After next week’s deadline to pass legislation out of the opposite chamber, we’ll start hearing budget bills.

Cushing man convicted in 2016 molestation case

On Wednesday, April 7, a Payne County jury found Aaron Leonard Cook, 39, of Cushing, guilty of lewd molestation and child sexual abuse. Early in 2017, Cook was arrested and charged, but his fi rst trial in 2019 ended with a hung jury. A second trial, scheduled in 2020 was rescheduled for April 7.
