With just a few weeks remaining in the regular legislative session, budget negotiations have ramped up significantly. The Legislature has until May 26 to send a general appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2024, which begins July 1, to the governor's desk.

The Governor signed a third bill of mine into law this week. House Bill 1029 directs the State Dept. of Education to create a standard form for reporting on student homelessness. This form is important to ensure we can direct these students toward resources. This bill has been a long time coming.

A few weeks ago, I outlined my Senate bill after it passed its subcommittee. I'm glad to share that Senate Bill 281 passed the second hurdle, the full House Appropriations & Budget Committee on Wednesday, which means it's now eligible to be heard on the House floor.

Senate Review

We’ve now passed the deadline for Senate committees to vote on bills sent over from the House, and have until April 27 to complete floor votes on those measures the committees approved.
