OKLAHOMA CITY - Wes Nickell, 11, of Cushing, won the 2024 State Wrestling title this past weekend at Jim Norick Arena, or as its better known “The Big House” in Oklahoma City. Wrestling in Division 3 (10 and under) at 73lbs, Nickell had to battle to take home his third state title.

CUSHING - After a disappointing performance in the Cushing Tournament a couple weeks ago, the Cushing Tiger grapplers dominated the No. 3 team in 3A, the Pawnee Black Bears, defeating them 56-10.

Lady Tigers get a win in Ft. Gibson

CUSHING - The Cushing Lady Tiger basketball team traveled to the Ft. Gibson Tournament last week and came away with their second win of the season, soundly defeating the Nathan Hale Lady Rangers, 58-29. “We saw some good things from some of our players,” said Head Coach Mason Bade.

Tigers host Cushing invite, place seventh

CUSHING - Top-tier wrestling teams from more than 25 Oklahoma high schools were in Cushing last weekend for the Cushing Invitational Tournament. Overall, the Tigers placed seventh. Cushing’s top finisher was Owen Collier, who was wrestling at 106 lbs.

Sports Year in Review 2023

Sports in the Cushing Citizen’s coverage area are taken serious. There was elation for individual state champions, surprising success for teams that were supposed to be rebuilding, and heartbreak for a few powerhouse teams who’s seasons ended before their time.
