In last week’s story headlined, Ripley well sanded in, two clarifications are in order. The failure of the pump in the sanded-in well did not cause the leak on Cook Street. Also, the city replaced a 35 gallon-per minute-pump with a 65 gallon-per-minute pump.

Beitz’ earn Master Gardner Golden Shovel Award

CUSHING — The recipients of this month’s Golden Shovel Award are Mark and Kristin Beitz at 2209 E 9 th Street in Cushing. They purchased 5 acres in 2012 and have been hard at work developing it. The property was covered with cedar trees, which Mark has spent years clearing.

OSDH reports first West Nile death of 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is reporting the first human case, and death, caused by West Nile Virus (WNV) in a Southwest Oklahoma resident. The patient was hospitalized before passing away.WNV spreads through the bite of an infected mosquito.
