How to Get Ready for Wildfires

Over the past few weeks, Oklahoma’s dry, warm and windy weather contributed to more than 20 wildfires. These fires have burned thousands of acres and destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings across the state, forcing evacuations and impacting hundreds of Oklahomans.

If you’re drivin’ on dirt roads, you gotta take it easy, ‘cause those roads can be slippery, especially after a good rain. Keep both hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road, and watch out for them potholes and rocks. If you feel yourself startin’ to skid, don’t hit the brakes too hard.

Fire Department responds to fire and gas leak

Cushing Fire Department members responded to reports of a gas leak and a wildfire in a span of three days. According to Deputy Chief Dalton Novotny, on April 10, firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a possible gas leak at Fleet Pride on East Main Street, in Cushing.

Cushing Student Wins Award in Statewide Law Day Contest

Heidi Huseman, a Cushing High School student, won first place for 12th grade writing in the recent statewide Law Day Contest sponsored by the Oklahoma Bar Association. Huseman was recognized by Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice John Kane during a ceremony at the Oklahoma Capitol on March 21.
