Mom left more than impressions, she left a legacy

I have struggled with this column for our papers since February. I have written it. Rewritten it. I have thrown it away and started again and again. It is the toughest thing I have ever done. My mom passed away in February of this year. To our family it was a big loss.

Miss CrossRoads: Miss Oklahoma Preliminary Competition Slated for July 24

Miss CrossRoads, a local preliminary competition for the Miss Oklahoma and Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen takes the runway this July 24, 2022, in Cushing, OK. Miss CrossRoads will join 31 other local competition winners to vie for the 2023 Miss Oklahoma crown next summer.

Payne County runoff planned August 23

The primary elections are in the record books and while they fi nalized many races, some offi ces remain up for grabs. Any race where a single candidate did not garner more than 50 percent of the vote, was sent to a runoff election, which will be held August 23.

Absentee Ballot Deadline Approaching for runoff

Voters in Payne County who want absentee ballots mailed to them for the August 23 Runoff Primary Election should apply now, County Election Board Secretary Dondee Klein said today. Absentee ballots are available to any registered voter, provided they are eligible to vote in the election requested.

Bottle Rocket Wars

Bottle rocket wars were one of the highlights of my teenage years. We would hold the bottle rocket between two fi ngers and shoot it right at a friend. Somehow no one lost an eye and my mom didn’t wring my neck when she would eventually fi nd out about it.
