Local Olympians remembered

In honor of the Olympics starting this week, we take a dive into Cushing’s history and two Olympians that hailed from Cushing. Robert Pearce Pearce graduated in 1928 from Cushing High School and went on to wrestle for Oklahoma State University, winning the NCAA title in 1931.

Cushing 11U at State Tourney

The Cushing Tigers 11U had a quick appearance in the state tournament this weekend. They went 0-2 and had a tough draw against Ada and Red Oak in a last inning thriller. Cushing however, was the only 11U team there. They played against 12U teams in this state tournament.

Child Predator Unit Arrests Mannford Man

Matthew William Smith, of Mannford, was arrested July 13 by Tulsa County’s Child Predator Unit. Smith, 52, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and booked into the Tulsa County jail.

Contract with Alliance Maintenance Continues

The Payne County commission approved a contract with Alliance Maintenance during the commission meeting held on Monday, July 12. This is an annual contract that has been renewed multiple times in the past.
