Carl Wayne Hensley was born on February 19th, 1937 in Yale, OK to William Worley and Wilma Janette (Gooch) Hensley. He passed from this life to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 29th, 2020. Carl lived his entire life within the Yale city limits where his love for the community earned him the title of “Mr. Yale”. He was known as the local historian where he was rarely asked a question about Yale that he could not answer.
Carl attended Yale Schools and graduated with the class of 1957. While in high school he began working as a custodian for the First National Bank. Upon graduating high school, he attended Draughon’s Business School in Tulsa. It was there that he met his true love, Emma Lou Russell. Carl and Lou were married September 7th, 1958. Carl continued his career in banking and worked his way from custodian to Senior Vice President, a position he held for 35 years until retiring from First Bank and Trust in 1988. He then began a 14- year career as the Yale City Manager, a position in which he took great pride.
Carl’s civic engagements were countless, and he earned many accolades throughout his lifetime. He was a retired Yale Volunteer fireman with twenty years of service, Payne County Civil Defense Director, President of Payne County Banker’s Association, member of the Lone Chimney Water Board, Treasurer of the Yale School Board, Yale City Commissioner, member of the Yale Lion’s club, member of Yale Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of directors for COEDD and CHARMED and was a member of the Yale First United Methodist Church.
Carl enjoyed fishing, camping, collecting coins and tinkering with small engines. He also had a love for history that inspired his extensive collection of Yale photos and memorabilia. Carl was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and his family was undoubtedly the center of his world.
Carl is survived by his wife, Lou, and three children: daughter Cynthia Jean White and husband Mike of Yale, son Russell Wayne Hensley of Yale, son Carl Willis Hensley and wife Bonnie of Yale.
