Curtis Sams

Curtis Douglas Sams, a lifetime resident of Cushing, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 in Cushing, Oklahoma at the age of 53. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Cushing, Ok. Interment followed at Flynn Cemetery, Cushing, Oklahoma.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.

Curtis was born on August 30, 1967 in Cushing, Ok to the late Dennis “Red” Vernon and Ester Cordia (Jennings) Sams. He grew up and attended school in Cushing, graduating from Cushing High School in 1986. Curtis married the love of his life Michelle Smith on August 9, 1986 at her parents’ home in Cushing. To this union, Cordia and Lexey were born. They raised their family in Cushing. At the age of 17, Curtis began working for his uncle Billy Joe Sams at his paint and body shop. He also worked for BFI and Leon Body Works at the same time to perfect his skill. Then he began working full time for Billy Joe and after his death, he took over the shop on Kings Highway and moved it into town. In 2005, Curtis Sams Paint and Body was officially opened and has taken care of customers since. In his spare time, he enjoyed OU Football, riding his Harley, attending LifeChurch and taking care of his granddaughter Salem Sams. Curtis liked to travel to Colorado and spend as much time as possible with his family at the beach in Florida. His brothers and his nephew Eric Sams were very important to him.

Curtis is survived by his wife Michelle of the home, daughters Cordia Patterson and husband Patrick of Palm Bay, Florida and Lexey Sams of Cushing, brothers Gary Wayne Sams of Cushing, Ricky Joe Sams and wife Joy of Agra, Randy Gene Sams and Gloria George of Cushing, one granddaughter Salem Sams, sister-in-law Merbie Ludtke and husband Tim of Cushing, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Kenneth and Delores Smith, brothers Robert Sams and Dennis Galbraith and brother in law Tim Smith.
