Howard Dale Matherly, longtime Cushing resident and retired barber, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, December 19, 2020 at the age of 77 years.

The son of the late Virgil and Pauline Matherly, Howard was born on May 30, 1943 in Shamrock, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of Oilton High School class of 1961.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Saine on March 7, 1964. To this union were born four children, Angie, Brett, Brent and Patti.

Howard owned and operated the Colonial Barber Shop for many years, retiring from the business in 2017. He was a longtime active member of the First Free Will Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher for many years.

In his spare time, he enjoyed going to Branson with his family, watching the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Oklahoma Sooners, but most of all, his biggest passion was spending time with his family. He traveled many miles to watch his grandkids activities, bragging about each and every one of them. He will also be remembered for The Gospel Beacons and later The Matherly Family singing group.

He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Pat Matherly of the home; his children, Angie Matherly Greer of Cushing, Brett Matherly and his wife Jackie of Ardmore, Brent Matherly and his wife Carmen of Bristow and Patti Matherly McBride of Cushing; two sisters, Carolyn Glimp and her husband Earl of Drumright and Helen Geyer of Drumright; grandchildren, Josh Greer and wife Whitni, Brittani Baker and husband Kyle, Tanner Matherly and wife Rachel, Kaitline Coff ey and husband Haden, Cameron Matherly, Hanna Beth Paul and husband Eli, Dane McBride and Chantz McBride; greatgrandchildren, Matherli Greer, Elli Beth Greer, Brady Baker, Hudson Greer and Blakely Matherly; several nieces and nephews whom he loved and prayed for, calling each of them by name, every night. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in law, Jerry Geyer.

Visitation will be from 12-7 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Cushing Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Cushing Free Will Baptist Church. In lieu of fl owers, donations can be made to the local Gideon chapter at Gideon International, PO Box 1535, Stillwater, OK 74076.
