557-7304 I was honored to receive a plaque recently from the Oklahoma State Troopers Association in recognition of my continued support of our Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers. This award, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol overall, means so much to me because of an officer I knew when I was growing up.

I have quit watching the news for the most part. It makes me sick to my stomach.

This week, the House hosted a two day interim study on tribal compacts. The study was organized by House Speaker Charles McCall, who said he wanted to build institutional knowledge surrounding the history of the compacts.

As November unfolds and the autumn leaves descend, we’re reminded of a day that holds profound significance for our great nation. Veterans Day, celebrated on the 11th day of the 11th month, is a time to honor those who have served in the United States military and to reflect on the invaluable contributions of our veterans.

As we prepare to celebrate Veterans Day on November 11, I am reminded of the unbelievable sacrifices our men and women in the service have made. I have always had a great deal of respect for our country's military, as several of my family members have served, but my trip to Normandy, France, earlier this year only deepened my appreciation.

In this age of instant digital communication, where the world’s knowledge is a few keystrokes away and tweets spread like wildfire, the value of the written word has not diminished; it has, in fact, grown more significant than ever before. That’s why we need your letters to the editor.

I have the privilege of serving as the chair of the House Children, Youth and Family Services Committee, and this past week, my committee hosted some interim studies. Several of the studies focused on food insecurity, which occurs when a person doesn't have sufficient access to food.
