Lady Tigers end season in state quarterfinals

The Cushing High School Lady Tigers ended their slowpitch softball season with a district and regional championship and yet another appearance at the OSSAA Class 5A State Tournament where they were the state quarterfinalists.

Nakiyah Jackson Nakiyah took the state championship in shot put at the OSSAA Class 4A State Track meet in Catoosa. She won by putting the shot 42’ 4.5” Camden Crooks Camden Crooks nabbed the state 4A title in the 300-meter hurdles. Crooks finished the event with a time of 41.02.

Tiger Track boasts two state champions

Cushing High School’s boys and girls track teams made a strong showing at the OSSAA Class 4A Track meet in Catoosa on May 7 and 8. The Tigers brought home two state individual titles with Nakiyah Jackson taking top honors in the shot put and Camden Crooks winning it all the the 300m hurdles.

At the Oklahoma USA State Freestyle/Greco wrestling meet held last week in Cushing, The teams from Cushing scored well enough to pick up a third place finish overall in a field of 95 of the top wrestling teams in the state.

This week, we felt compelled to name the entire Cushing Lady Tigers Varsity golf team as athletes of the week. These hard-working ladies qualified for the state tournament by capturing the regional runner up spot in Kingfisher last week.
Oak Grove’s Track team came home from the recent ORES State Track meet with three state champs and a lot of podium finishes. Pictured rom left are, Coach Nate Walker, Klayton Kinnin, Tony Six, Cole Cooper, Cora Eyler, Mya Bridgeman, and Hailee Allen. In the front is Owen Collier.

Oak Grove School made the most of the day on Saturday, April 24, at the Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools State Track meet at North Rock Creek in Shawnee. The weather was cold and everything was wet, but the Tigers did not let that slow them down.

Tiger baseball cinches No. 2 spot in conference

Since April 1, the Cushing Tigers, have won eight of their last nine games and the team’s season record sits at 13-9 going into the final week of the regular season. The Tigers have been under new management this season with Head Coach Bryce Scalf taking over at the end of last season.

Riley Matheson In the Tiger’s 9-8 win over Cleveland Monday, Riley Matheson had one run, one hit and one RBI in two visits to the plate. Brody Berlowitz Brody pitched the final three innings of Monday’s game against Cleveland and gave up one hit and fanned five batters.
