Senator Lankford honors Purple Heart recipients

Historic legislation to honor America’s Purple Heart recipients, the National Purple Heart Commemorative Coin Act (S.2815), is quickly gaining momentum in the U.S. Senate with the addition of Oklahoma Senator James Lankford to its growing list of bi-partisan co-sponsors.

Here are the rosters for 2020 All-State

Three area girls have been named to the 2020 Oklahoma Soccer Coaches Association’s all state rosters in their respective districts. Named to the 4A all state roster from Cushing are, forward Avery Bonine and goalkeeper Jasmine Grant.

Visitation returns to ODOC facilities

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections is set to resume inmate visitation next weekend. Visitation will be highly structured to accommodate social distancing. Visiting sessions will be two hours long and offered multiple days a week. More information will soon be available on visitation schedules.

Golf course grant tabled

The Payne County Economic Development Authority on Thursday tabled a grant request for upgrades to Buffalo Rock Golf and Event Center, LLC in Cushing.

County moves to phase 3

The Payne County Commissioners Thursday approved the county moving to Phase 3 opening in response to COVID-19. District 2 Commissioner Chris Reding said the county currently has one active COVID-19 case in the Cushing area. “We only have that one case over in Cushing,” he said.

Cushing has hired former Newcastle assistant girls basketball coach Jake Phillips as the head coach of the Tiger girls basketball team. Phillips is replacing coach Brian Busby, who has accepted an administrative position at Cushing Middle School.

Friday May 22, Cushing Police Department announced the new Detective for Cushing Police Department. Chief Claxton announced that Jerrod Livergood will be the new Detective. Detective Livergood will begin this new role at the end of the current shift bid for patrol.
