Una Rose Kirby was born on January 5, 1940 in Sulfur, OK to Jewell E Young and Ammar T Kirby. She was the youngest of 11 children. Early in her childhood the family moved to Dimmitt, Texas where Una was raised and attended school. Una met and married William Terry Maxwell at the age of 15.
